Melbourne Airport is one of the largest in the country, and it accommodates thousands of travellers every day. For those looking to get to Docklands, there are numerous public transport options, along with taxis and even hire cars. However, those options come with their own setbacks. For example, public transport is often delayed and even when it’s running on time you’re left with frequent stops for other passengers. Taxis are more direct, but when you’re travelling through one of the biggest airports in Australia, they can be in high demand and you may find yourself at the back of the queue. Hire cars are potentially the most challenging option, considering Melbourne’s famously demanding traffic conditions. To counter those issues, we would recommend a private transfer with Car Australia. We offer door to door service, with pre-booking options and prices that are comparable to most if not all alternatives.

Pick Up and Other Information

The trip

On average, it takes about 40 minutes to get from Melbourne Airport to Docklands. The trip may be only 22km or so, but it covers some of the busiest roads in Australia, which means congestion is always a possibility. In those cases, it normally takes about 45 minutes to get from Melbourne Airport to Docklands. If you’re travelling during peak hour, you can expect to be competing with millions of commuters for road space. When you look at it that way, a trip of 45 minutes is not too bad. On the other hand, when the streets are quieter late at night or early in the morning, the trip will probably be closer to 35 minutes.

The airport

To cater for the sheer volume of passengers that pour into Melbourne from overseas, interstate, and regional destination, the airport has four separate terminals. There are individual terminals dedicated to Qantas services, international services, Virgin services, and budget services respectively, which means that getting in and out of your terminal will be easy. That could see you with some time on your hands before your flight departs, in which case we would recommend the transit facilities, shopping outlets, restaurants, and entertainment opportunities that are spread across all four terminals. Melbourne knows how to greet its guests, and that is obvious nowhere more than the airport. So allow yourself some time to relax before your flight departs.

The destination – Docklands

Docklands is one of Melbourne’s most popular inner city suburbs, and it lies directly adjacent to the city, only two kilometres west of the CBD. Sporting fans would know it as the home of Marvel Stadium, which is a multidisciplinary sporting mecca right in the heart of Melbourne. It accommodates five AFL teams, as well as the Big Bash League’s Melbourne contingent: the Renegades. All year around, Marvel stadium draws crowds morning, noon, and night. If you prefer to take in the culture of Australia’s cultural capital, then we can recommend Harbour Esplanade, where you’ll find a public urban park complete with basketball, netball, and even ping pong facilities. To round it all off, Docklands houses the usual collection of eclectic Melbourne cafes, restaurants, and bars, along with no shortage of unique retailers. It’s a welcoming mix of indoor and outdoor opportunities, and it is best seen with the advantage of reliable transport. When you book with Car Australia, you can see Docklands and its surrounds from the comfort of a chauffeured limousines – just let us know where you want to go!
